At this time the possibility of European deployment of US anti-missile defense' elements becomes the subject of wide speculation in the press of some countries of Central Europe. And our native Poland constitutes no exception to this process.
I'm a journalist. And coverage of recent visit of US delegation to Poland has come within my duties. During the talks representatives of Republican majority in US Senate, arrived to Warsaw, have uttered their hope that our country will become a reliable partner of USA in the question of developing US anti-missile armor. And although most of our military experts have considered that such step as deployment of US MDS elements on the territory of Poland may create a real threat to our national security, our President, let him be tempted by Washington.
But I think those who have counterpleaded were absolutely right. See for yourself. According to data of our military Chechen terrorists are ready to fulfill orders of their Muslim brothers, concerning organization new terrorist acts, directed against these US objects. But there is no secret that such objects are associated with usage and storage of nuclear warheads. Their destruction (as a result of some act of terror) directly endangers the ecological security of our country as well as some other neighbouring European states' safety. It is not enough for the Poles to participate in US military operations in Iraq, is it? Now our President is fading into a shopboy for US bosses.

Well, we`ve gained a few things from our presence in Iraq:

- our military had gained some experience
- our arms manufacturers (i.e. BUMAR) had gained a perfect environment to be able to test its newest products
- a coupple of military and construction contracts
- a good perspective for our companies to gain more contracts over the years becaouse of our great relations with the Iraqi governemnt,
- the tightining of our relations with the US - which is always good.

and ofcourse

- we are helping the Iraqi people.

Ofcourse this is not enough - but the courrent situation poses some hope for further future gains - if the situation in Iraq stabilizes..

When it comes to the base - a strategic US base on our teritory guarantees us that no country is going to attack us with its conventional forces without risking its total anahilation.. You can say that NATO is guaranteeing us the same ..well I find that`s partly true, cose in the case of a Russian attack some people in NATO might come to an idea that its "OK" to sacrifice Poland ..just as it hapened after WWII ..a strategic US base would make our position stronger and the idea of sacraficing our country wouldn`t come so quickly.

The risk of a terrorist attack on Polish territory is minimal - there are only a few thousand Muslims living here. Any ponential terrorist network here can easily be discovered by our secret service.. not to mention the fact that in general our country has quite good relations with the Muslim states (we aren`t being view as the great satan over there).

Beside there are countries that are fighting about that base.
